Dehydrated Skin

Dehydrated skin occurs when the protective uppermost layer of the skin, known as the stratum
corneum, is lacking in moisture. Every day our skin loses water - it's totally normal!
When your skin loses more water than it needs, that's when the signs of dehydration can start to show.

Difference between dry and dehydrated skin

Dehydrated skin can easily be mistaken for dry skin, as they have similar characteristics. However, the two are very different:

  • Dry skin is a skin type that naturally produces fewer oils, leaving skin feeling rough and tight. It’s typically genetic and can be managed.

  • Dehydrated skin is a situation where the skin is lacking in water. It’s often triggered by external factors or lifestyle. All skin types can struggle with dehydration.

Common Causes

  • Environmental factors

    • Cold, winter, wind, pollution, UV rays, etc.

  • Emotional factors

    • Stress or fatigue

  • Cosmetic products that are too aggressive, detergent, stripping or drying

  • External factors

    • Such as tobacco or alcohol;

  • Certain medical treatments

    • Such as anti-acne or anti-cholesterol medications

Tips for dehydrated skin

  1. Add hyaluronic acid into your skincare routine.

  2. Avoid harsh cleansers.

  3. Use a hydrating face cream.

  4. Protect skin from UV rays - at least 50 SPF.

  5. Apply a weekly face mask.

  6. Drink plenty of water.

  7. Reduce your caffeine and alcohol intake.

  8. Avoid steaming hot showers.

How to treat dry and dehydrated skin

If a dry skin type sounds like you, be sure to use a dry skin regimen that contains oil- or cream-based products daily. You may also want to keep a hand treatment for dry skin with you at all times.

If you think your skin is dehydrated, try to identify what's dehydrating you and correct it. It could be your lifestyle or your environment. Use water-rich products like Skin Hydrating Booster and Skin Hydrating Masque, which contain water-loving Hyaluronic Acid to help balance your skin as needed. And keep a water-based, hydrating toner handy to hydrate your skin throughout the day.

Pro Tip: It is entirely possible for your skin to be dry and dehydrated at the same time. If this is the case, use a regimen that contains oil and water. If you need help finding the right products, chat with one of our skin therapists!.

Dull skin can be instantly boosted with exfoliation. Removing dry dead skin cells and replenishing skin with a nourishing masque can have skin looking radiant in as little as 10 minutes. Look for gentle exfoliants with added skin brighteners, such as Daily Microfoliant, and follow with a generous layer of a vitamin packed masque for a quick pick me up. The MultiVitamin Power Recovery Masque is a great option.

How to use Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant

The Daily Microfoliant is one of the brand's bestselling products thanks to its unique formulation. Made from a combination of Rice Enzyme Powder, Grapefruit and Salicylic Acid, it works to remove dead skin cells and dulling debris on the surface to leave you with a renewed and rejuvenated complexion.

  1. Mix the Daily Microfoliant with water until you have a soft, foamy consistency.

  2. Massage into the skin until you feel the foam start to go slightly tacky.

  3. Rinse away with water and then apply moisturiser as usual.

  4. Use once a day for the best results.

How to use MultiVitamin Power Recovery Masque

  • Apply generously to cleansed face and throat, avoiding the eye area.

  • After 10 to 15 minutes, gently yet thoroughly rinse with warm water.

  • Apply once per week or whenever the skin requires a soothing remedy.

  • Follow with Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF50 or prescribed Dermalogica Moisturiser.

The Six Steps to HydraFacial

  1. Detox

Lymphatic drainage helps to clear your body of harmful toxins.  Blood flow is increased helping the body naturally hydrate and clean your skin from the inside out.

  2. Cleansing & Exfoliation

The surface of your skin is cleaned, removing dead skin cells and other debris, whilst simultaneously infusing a natural serum to nourish your skin.  Revealing new clean healthy and hydrated skin.

  3. Brightening Agent

The brightening agent helps to gently loosen debris from your pores before the extraction stage, whilst immediately brightening your skin tone.

  4. Extraction

Blackheads, dirt and other impurities are smoothly extracted from your congested skin pores, which immediately makes your skin look and feel cleaner and healthier.

  5. Hydration

Hydration of your skin is achieved with a cocktail of the most advanced and powerful antioxidants and peptides.  That leave your skin looking hydrated and fuller.

  6. Rejuvenation

Finally, to encourage your skin’s natural production of vitamin D you relax under a red LED light.  This part of the treatment naturally helps to reduce inflammation.  In addition to stimulating your body’s production of collagen, that returns structure and shape to your skin.

HydraFacial helps rosacea because it uses massage techniques, and vortex fusion technology and contains skin-renewing ingredients that help to soothe inflamed, red skin and correct uneven pigmentation.

The first step of HydraFacial is massage-based to help improve the natural circulation of the lymphatic system. This helps to increase blood flow and oxygen levels in the skin which may relieve the tightness often experienced with rosacea. By also encouraging the fast removal of toxins and waste through the lymphatic system, it may reduce the development of bumps and spots experienced alongside chronic redness.

The other stages of HydraFacial, like the cleansing and exfoliating stage, work to remove dead skin cells and promote overall stronger skin health which always makes your complexion look brighter.

As certain exfoliants can irritate rosacea, and worsen redness, this step is a very gentle process that contains natural botanical extracts and ingredients to nourish the skin. Some of these ingredients used are:

  • Lactic acid – an alpha hydroxy acid specifically used to treat hyperpigmentation and uneven complexion

  • Glucosamine – for regenerating skin cells, improving hydration, and inhibiting the development of red pigmentation

  • Antioxidants – to repair, and reduce inflammation, of the skin as well as fine lines and wrinkles

During stages 3, 4, and 5, you can expect your skin to be deeply clarified and all the impurities removed. Then your skin will be rehydrated and flooded with essential brightening agents, more antioxidants, peptides, and hyaluronic acid to leave your skin feeling rejuvenated and glowing.

These steps help to reduce the appearance of rosacea, as they work to restore the pores to their normal size – which can improve the appearance of visible blood vessels. HydraFacial’s gentle skin resurfacing properties also help fade away the redness.

In the final stage of HydraFacial, a hand-led, infrared light device is passed across the skin which has large benefits in pigmentation correction. The light energy targets and accelerates the repair of broken blood vessels and helps to prevent excessive flushing which are prominent symptoms of rosacea.

Other Treatments To Consider

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy

Simply put, a PRP facial uses your own blood’s platelets and plasma on your face. The natural chemicals in your own PRP are slathered onto your face and then micro-needled into the skin during a short procedure. Once the plasma is in, it begins to do its work of rejuvenating your entire face, tightening wrinkled areas, and smoothing the overall look. It’s able to do that because PRP’s essential chemical components stimulate collagen growth.

Some people opt to have just one facial while others undergo a regular series of procedures. The more often you have a PRP facial, the longer the results of each treatment will last, which is about three to six months.

Ideal for ideal for: acne scarring, sun damage, dull skin tone, fine lines & wrinkles, crows feet and dark circles.

Pricing starts at £450.
